The workshop is a key part of the SWAN Week celebrations, culminating on Saturday, November 16, with an award ceremony.

This collaboration with the Imo State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), chaired by Cosmos Chukwuemeka, aims to equip sports journalists with critical skills in digital media and artificial intelligence (AI). The workshop will cover essential areas including digital literacy, AI-driven data analysis, and innovative storytelling techniques, ensuring journalists remain competitive in the rapidly evolving media landscape.

Chinedu Hardy Nwadike, founder of OtownGist Media & Creative Hub, highlighted the importance of this training, noting, “Incorporating digital tools and AI into sports journalism is no longer optional; it’s imperative for staying relevant and engaging today’s audience.”

Cosmos Chukwuemeka expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that the workshop would significantly enhance the proficiency of sports journalists in the region. “This program aligns perfectly with our commitment to professional development and will provide our members with the knowledge needed to thrive in modern sports reporting,” Chukwuemeka said.

Participants will experience hands-on training, interactive case studies, and discussions on the ethical implications of using AI in journalism. The workshop’s focus on practical application aims to equip journalists with the skills needed to produce compelling, data-driven reports and engage a broader audience.

The inclusion of this workshop in SWAN Week highlights the association’s dedication to fostering growth and innovation within sports journalism. By embracing new technology, sports journalists can improve their reporting, serve their audiences better, and contribute positively to the development of Nigeria’s media industry.
